Your journey begins with a 45-minute ride over impressive lava fields adorned with steam-producing hot springs before you arrive at the Eldhestar “Volcano Horses” Farm. During your time there, you will be introduced to the history and characteristics of the unique, hardy Icelandic horse through an informative horse show. Enjoy some light refreshments at the farm, including a taste of the local area’s famous hot spring bread — a true traditional delicacy that is baked underground using heat from the nearby hot springs. Following your visit, you’ll re-board your motor coach for a short trip to the hot spring community of Hveragerði, where you will be able to see the town’s geothermal area and its variety of bubbling hot springs and mud pools. The area also ha a small greenhouse where visitors can view a small variety of plants and vegetables. On the way back to Reykjavík, you will stop at Hellisheidavirkjun, the geothermal plant of Hellisheiði where you will pay a visit to the visitor centre in order to learn a little about geosciences, geothermal technology, the environment and the history of the area.
