Pass through the western part of Ponta Delgada via the coastal roads before arriving at Feteiras where the route ascends to Sete Cidades. You’ll visit the extinct crater of Sete Cidades, some 1,900 feet above sea level for some fantastic photo opportunities. From the edge of the crater, eight miles in circumference, there is a magnificent view of the two lakes at the bottom. One is deep blue, reflecting the sky, while the other is bright green, due to the beautiful setting of the lush crater walls that are rich with vegetation. Descend to the center of the village. On the shores of the Blue Lake is the village of Sete Cidades, enigmatic as its own name (Seven Cities) and surrounded by the dark forest covered walls of the Caldeira. Enjoy your free time in this scenic beauty and in one of the oldest villages of the Azores. Return to the pier, passing by Pico do Carvão, from the bus you can see both sides of the island (North and South coast).
- Tour involves walking over cobblestone and flat surfaces.
