Your excursion begins at the pier, where you'll board your motor coach and travel through Funchal. You’ll pass the picturesque fishing village of Camara de Lobos, a favorite hangout spot of Sir Winston Churchill in the 1950s, on your way to Cabo Girao. You’ll travel past vineyards, terraced fields, pinewoods and eucalyptus groves to the top of Cabo Girao. This sea cliff is the one of Europe’s highest, standing at over 1,800 feet above sea level. The viewpoint from the top boasts dramatic views of the coast and Funchal in the distance. Later, enjoy the scenic view from Pico dos Barcelos observation deck, with its panoramic scenery of Funchal with its red-tiled roofs. Next, you’ll head to the Mercado dos Lavradores (the Funchal farmers market), with its colorful displays of fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers and crafts, and catch a glimpse of the local Madeiran people as they go about their day-to-day. Afterwards, continue on to the embroidery factory, where you'll have a first-hand look at how hand-stitched embroidery is made. Embroidery has long been one of Madeira's exports and is as acclaimed as the island’s wine. You will also have a chance to enjoy a glass of Madeira wine and browse the showroom before heading back to the pier.
