Corfu is undoubtedly the greenest and prettiest of the Greek islands, you will journey past rows of cypresses and the orange, lemon and olive groves that grow amidst grassy fields studded with marvelous wildflowers alternating with rich vineyards to Paleokastritsa, which is also known as "Corfu's Capri": a natural harbor with a sandy beach that is entirely protected by a rocky cliff. According to mythology Ulysses was shipwrecked here and arrived at this bay where he met Nausicaa.
You will stop briefly at the Monastery of the Holy Virgin before proceeding to the Achilleion Palace, built by the Empress Elizabeth of Austria in 1891 as her residence and subsequently owned by the German Emperor Wilhelm II. The fabulous gardens with imposing statues depicting Achilles offer a breathtaking view of the landscape and lush nature of the island.
You will enjoy lunch in a traditional restaurant offering Greek specialties. Finally, you will return to your coach that will take you back you to Corfu Town, where you will continue your tour on foot. Visit the church of the island's patron saint, Saint Spiridion, which houses an important collection of icons, walk along the narrow streets of the town beneath the picturesque balconies and archways and past the Town Hall and cricket pitch which is still used today. Before returning to the ship you will have time to look for a few souvenirs in the little shops in the town center.
