Your tour begins with a comfortable bus ride, during which you’ll be able to admire some of the most interesting sights of this city. You’ll travel on the Via Etnea, the main street of Catania city, where you’ll pass many extravagant palaces built of Mount Etna stone. Continue along to the Piazza Stesicoro, where you will see the monument dedicated to Vincenzo Bellini. Next is a visit to the Roman amphitheater, whose dimensions are only slightly smaller than the Coliseum in Rome. Moving on, you will make a short stop in the historical center and the cathedral dedicated to Saint Ágata, then travel to University Square and enjoy some free time in the busiest part of the city. Afterward, you’ll depart the town and drive near the bottom of Mount Etna to a splendid “mulberry farmhouse” where they produce a type of mulberry that grows in the south of Italy. Discover the marvelous manor with 160 acres of cultivated citrus and olives, the property of a noble old Sicilian family. Tenuta del Gelso was made famous in the 1800s thanks to the talent of the Baron Franz Mannino, a trader and entrepreneur who started a flourishing business in citrus and wines with North Europe and America. After his death, a large amount of his land and crops were sold. Later on, an heir of the family, the Baron Giuseppe, brought back some of the splendor that was once lost and again launched a booming business on an international level. Admire the citrus orchards and some of the rooms of the “mulberry farmhouse” and its bodegas, a symbol of the family’s ancient wine tradition. You’ll also enjoy a snack while tasting of some of the famous wines. Later on, you’ll drive back toward Catania.
