Immerse yourself in Tasmania's unique history, wildlife and wines on this comprehensive full-day tour exploring the historical villages of Richmond and Shene, Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary and a local winery.

First stop is Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary where you’ll come face to face with some of Australia’s most famous native animals including koalas, Tasmanian devils, wombats, kangaroos and wallabies. You’ll get a chance to interact with many of them so make sure you bring your camera.

Following your wildlife adventure you’ll take a short drive to the historic Shene Estate, a pastoral holding since 1810. The grandeur of the property reflects early colonialist Gamaliel Butler’s wealth and position in the colony. A working cattle and sheep farm you’ll take a guided tour through the homestead, stables, barn, servants quarters, dairy and the Estate’s outbuildings. Afterwards, enjoy a generous morning tea of sandwiches, homemade cakes, tea and coffee.

Re-board the coach and continue through farming and wine country to historic Richmond. This beautifully preserved Georgian village is home to Australia's oldest jail, bridge and church. You’ll have free time on your own to explore the historic old jail and many of the well-preserved buildings that have been converted into shops, galleries, tearooms and bed-and-breakfasts. As an afternoon treat you’ll head over to a local vineyard, for wine-tasting at the cellar door. The final stop on your tour is Rosny Point Lookout for a spectacular photo opportunity, allowing you to soak up the magnificent views of Hobart and Mount Wellington before returning to your ship.

NOTES

  • To make your day as enjoyable as possible, please wear comfortable flat-soled shoes, clothing suited to the weather conditions, a hat and SPF30+ or higher factor sunscreen. Make sure to bring bottled water.
